Each year, the birth of September signals a time of transition. Yellow school buses once again appear in our neighborhoods, the leaves begin to change and seemingly with the snap of a finger, a new season is ushered in. At Airlie, we are welcoming the remaining third of 2015 with a host of events for our guests to enjoy.
On September 27th, join us in the Local Food Project Garden for a Cider Tasting featuring Albemarle Ciderworks of North Garden, Virginia. A passion project for the Shelton family who planted their first 20-tree orchard in the mid 1980s, Albemarle Ciderworks launched in 2009. Now, the orchard is home to 200 types of apples and 12 distinctive varietals of cider. Enjoy a tasting plus two pints of cider paired with hors d’oeuvres artfully crafted by Airlie’s culinary team. Engage with Rick Hood of Albemarle Ciderworks to learn more about this delicious drink. Explore our organic Local Food Project Garden and see if you can master our corn maze.
The culmination of our 2015 Signature Dinner Series is a fall fête featuring Duckhorn Vinyeards on October 17th. The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception and casual conversation. Make your way to the center of the garden and discover a harvest table, globe lit and awaiting your arrival. Indulge in five exquisitely prepared courses paired perfectly with vineyard varietals from Duckhorn. Watch the autumn sun fade over Airlie’s rolling landscape as you savor this unique farm-to-table experience.
Since it is the harvest season, our event line-up continues in (you guessed it!) the garden. Now open, the corn maze is fun for families and groups. Split into teams and play capture the flag. Or opt for the "secret room" reception, in which participants must find the secret room hidden in the walls of corn. Appetizers and beverages await their arrival.
As an Airlie guest, many outdoor recreational activities are at your disposal. Try your hand at archery with a recurve bow. Shoot sporting clays over an open field. Cast a line in one of the lakes or borrow a mountain bike and begin to explore our property on two wheels. Stone clad archways beckon you to meander the formal gardens surrounding Airlie house.
Need a quick bouquet for a hostess gift? Thinking of making a new dish with seasonal veggies? Purchase an Airlie Harvest Basket loaded with fresh herbs, vegetables and flowers. Small and large mason jar flower or herb bouquets are also available. All selections are grown right here in our organic Local Food Project garden.
Complete the season by booking our Harvest Package. Take a specialty Airlie picnic basket on a wine-tasting adventure to Fauquier’s local vineyards. Discover fall flavors when you dine in Garden Bistro. Toast s’mores from an Adirondack chair around one of our six firepits. Starting at $225, this package is available to book beginning September 15.
We look forward to seeing you this autumn at Airlie.
