Autumn at Airlie is one of our favorite seasons. At this time of year, Virginia truly offers the best of both worlds with beautiful color, and comfortably warm temperatures. All the more reason to venture out and have "fun in the sun" during your stay.  


Old Town Warrenton

Just a short drive from Airlie, we always recommend Old Town Warrenton as a wonderful place to shop and explore all year long. Fall is no exception, with the addition of autumnal events and festivities taking place throughout the season.

Scarecrows on Main Street
October 6 - November 8
Presented by Experience Old Town Warrenton and Families 4 Fauquier, the annual Scarecrow Festival features themed designs submitted by local non-profits and businesses. Categories include spookiest, funniest, historic and best business theme. 

Warrenton Ghost Tours
October 20, 21, 27, 28 (hours vary by date)
Costumed Fauquier Historical Society guides tell ghostly tales as they lead you through the streets of Old Town. 6 p.m. family-friendly tours on the 21st and 28th. Reserve your space and purchase tickets online.

HappyFest Kids and Pets Costume Parade
October 29 at 2:00 p.m.
As cute as it sounds! Trick-or-treating and family fun.

Fall Festival at Messick’s Farm Market

Fall Farm Days at Sky Meadows State Park
Weekends in October
Located just 20 miles from Airlie, in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, this 1,864-acre park offers a variety of family-friendly activities such as nature programs, blacksmith demonstrations, pick-your-own pumpkins, and much more. Details are available on the Sky Meadows State Park calendar.

A leisurely drive along Skyline Drive to admire fall foliage is one of the region’s most popular seasonal activities. Located halfway between Washington, D.C. and Skyline Drive, Airlie is a convenient stop along the route for dinner or an overnight stay.

Discover your local crush during Virginia wine month. Held annually each October, Virginia wine month beckons residents and visitors to discover new varietals at area vineyards and wineries.
